The Power of Every One
Great steps forward in history have frequently started with the inspiration of one person: a person who looked at a situation, wished for change and then made that change happen. People like Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jn, and Nelson Mandela liberated the minds and bodies of oppressed people and changed the way people live. Their lives highlight the power that one person has to make a difference. But great movements in ideology, and revolutions in lifestyle would never have been successful if others had not joined in and played their part in pushing for change.
The power of being prepared. The first step in achieving our potential is to equip ourselves with skills. This takes planning and goal setting. Developing skills allows us to look around and become aware of what other people need. We can then ask ourselves how we can use our skills and resources to provide for that need. One person, well equipped with skills and prepared to take on a challenge, can make a huge difference in the lives of others.
The power of wise decisions. We all have our own potential power, but if we don't make wise decisions in our lives we can fail to fully harness this power, or worse, harness this power to produce negative outcomes. Making wise decisions involves having a clear mind, making sure that we have all the information we need and not allowing ourselves to be swayed by influences that are not looking out for our best interest.
The power of persistence. All of us will encounter challenges or distractions that can negatively impact on our ability to harness our own power and fulfil our potential. When we encounter these challenges we need to be able to keep focused on our end goal and keep moving forward.
The power of working together. One person working with purpose and vision can accomplish great things. But a group of people working together can also bring the rewards of shared experience, shared successes as well as shared support in times of disappointment. Working together develops bonds of friendship that develop us as individuals. It also allows for greater creativity that can generate extraordinary outcomes.
Life is constantly about making choices. We can allow ourselves to drift along with no goal or purpose, or we can say "I'm going to take control of the direction my life is going to follow". We need to make strong decisions that will empower ourselves and those around us. We can be the one who makes a difference, and join together with others to develop our own potential and that of our community. Working together as a team, we can experience the enriching, world changing, power of everyone.
